Microsoft resolved this issue around 1:30 p.m. CDT today (Tuesday, September 29).

Root cause: A service update deployment had caused processing inefficiencies within the deploying environments, resulting in impact.

Next steps:

  • Microsoft is reviewing their service update procedures to identify similar deployment and availability issues during our development and testing cycles.

More info: Impact is limited to users signing in to Outlook on the web for the first time. Users who have previously signed in are not affected.

Current status: We've identified that a service update deployment has caused processing inefficiencies within the deploying environments, resulting in impact. We're working to determine methods to expedite or pause deployments in the affected infrastructure to mitigate impact.

Scope of impact: Any user hosted on the affected infrastructure signing into Outlook on the web for the first time may be impacted.
